velvety chocolate cream pie

So, my husband requested a chocolate cream pie. I don't even know where to start! I've never made anything like that before.....i've made lemon meringue and fruit pies, caramel tart or frangipane tarts...but not chocolate cream pie.

Lucky for me there were several recipes in my old Hershey's cookbook here and i picked the first one and figured i'd go from there!

Velvety Chocolate Cream Pie
Makes 8 Serves

1 9inch baked pastry shell or crumb crust of your choice

I used Oreo crumbs....mmm...1 1/4 cups with 1/3 cup butter.

1/3 cup Hershey's cocoa (or any brand like i used =P)
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup cornflour
1/4 salt
3 cups milk
3 tbsp butter ( i didn't use this, and it still tasted great!)
1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Cool Whip
Grated Chocolate

Prepare your pie shell and set aside.

Combine cocoa, sugar, cornflour and salt in a saucepan. Gradually add milk, blending until smooth and combined.
Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Boil and stir constantly for 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Blend in butter and vanilla, pour directly into pie shell.
Carefully press plastic wrap over the top of the pie filling. This is to avoid it forming a 'skin'.
Chill for 3-4 hours.

Serve with whipped cream and a little grated chocolate! =)

Personal Note:- I cut 1/4 cup of sugar from the filling mixture and made the cocoa 1/2 cup and it still tasted really good, more chocolatey than too sweet and tried it with graham crumbs =) !
I found this a cheap and easy dessert treat to make for everyone!
